The day after Festino
The "Festino" is a major annual celebration held in honor of the Palermo's patron saint, Saint Rosalia. Taking place every year on July 14th, it commemorates the saint, who is credited with saving Palermo from the plague in 1624. The festino is one of the most significant cultural and religious events in Sicily. The celebration includes a mix of religious devotion, vibrant processions, fireworks, music, and street performances. A central part of the event is a grand parade through the streets, where a large statue of Santa Rosalia is carried on a beautifully decorated float. The procession typically moves from the Cathedral of Palermo through the city's historic streets, ending at the Foro Italico along the waterfront. These photos show the Foro Italico and the effects of the Festino the following morning.
